Using Solar Design in Your Home

Applications of solar energy in homes are passive solar heating, daylighting, solar hot water systems, and photovoltaic systems. Passive solar heating and daylighting are the most cost effective Solar Energy uses of solar energy in homes. Consider solar energy when designing your new house plan, and try to incorporate where it makes sense in new construction and when adding on, or remodeling your home.

Even though photovoltaic and solar hot water systems may have high initial costs, many homeowners choose to install them because they are reliable, can provide independence from utility energy providers and have a low environmental impact. Some utility companies also offer rebates or subsidies to homeowners who install these systems.
