Insulated Concrete Form Plans

Insulated concrete forms or ICFs are hollow molds made of polystyrene that assemble like building blocks with regular building skills to construct airtight, insulating concrete walls that finish with standard materials. The new technology of insulated concrete forms or insulated concrete blocks unites the benefits of concrete with superior insulation, stability, and environmental friendliness.

As for the advantages of concrete forms over wood framing, concrete is extremely solid and durable because it is termite resistant, and can't be destroyed by flood, damaged by fire, or deformed by humidity. The insulated concrete forms are made of recycled material so the environment is not adversely affected. Most importantly, the thermal and sound insulation benefits of walls made from insulated concrete forms is unparalleled, with R-values of 30-40. These concrete forms create silent rooms that maintain their temperature and can save an incredible amount on energy bills with monthly heating and cooling costs drastically reduced by as much as 50 percent. This can make up for the slightly more expensive cost of construction with concrete versus lumber. ICF plans come in many different house styles and are growing in popularity.
