Rustic One-Story Design

Ths rustic hideaway makes an ideal starter home or vacation retreat. Both board and batten siding and batten-board shutters are employed to enhance the countrified flavor of the house, while multiple hipped roofs help give the design its compact, trim appearance. The focal point of the interior is a large front-to-back living room in the center section of the home. From the entry porch, paired French doors give access to the space, while a hearth fireplace provides needed warmth during winter months. At the rear, French doors open to a porch. A spacious kitchen is close at hand with amenities that include a cooking island with sufficient counter space for a breakfast bar. The pantry and laundry alcove are concealed in a hallway that connects the kitchen with the formal dining area. If desired, this pantry/utility alcove may be redesigned to accommodate a guest powder room. The master bedroom is entered via two French doors. Its compartmented bathroom contains a separate shower stall and a large walk-in closet is also provided. The front-facing study may also serve as a second bedroom.
