Passive Solar Supersaver

Conceived to save the homeowner money on heating, this single-story passive solar home provides year-round comfort at much less fuel costs. During the winter, the sun's warming rays penetrate deeply into the living spaces; warmth settles into the thermal stone wall and floors. After sundown, the floors and walls steadily radiate all the heat saved during the day. Eave overhangs shade the interior during the summer; operable clerestory windows create a cooling air draft by convection. With minor modifications, the design is also adaptable to a zero lot line or attached condominium developments. Three bedrooms and two baths, a combination living/dining area, an open kitchen, dining nook and family room adjacent to a sun room complete this unusual family home. Foundation: optional basement of 634 square feet.
