Living with Sun Power

Angled wood siding accentuates the architectural geometry of this flexible leisure home. The house is also designed to exploit sun power and conserve energy. The focal point of the plan is an outsized living lounge that has a pitched ceiling and a wood-burning fireplace. A glass wall leads to the spacious sun deck. A roomy kitchen is accessible from another sun deck and serves two eating bars as well as the dining room. Three bedrooms are well isolated from the noise and traffic. Adjacent to the kitchen is the utility-storage room that can accommodate laundry facilities. As an option, two solar collectors can be installed on the roof, depending on the southern exposure. Solar equipment may be installed now or in the future. Ceilings: 8' standard; living room sloped. Foundation: crawl space.
