Craftsman House Plan Architecture StyleThe Craftsman style was born from the Arts and Crafts Movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in reaction to the Industrial Revolution's effects on the decorative arts. The Craftsman Architecture Style recognized the satisfaction that arose from completing meaningful work, and recognizing the importance of separating from a chaotic, technology-driven life to reconnect oneself with nature. A Craftsman architecture style includes exposed joinery, battered columns with stone bases, great wooden entry halls, and a form that is wide with a low pitched roof. The Craftsman style also includes wide overhanging eaves with exposed roof rafters, decorative braces, built-in cabinets, shelves and seating. A Craftsman House Plan style may also have stone chimneys, gabled dormers, and one or one and a half stories. One important characteristic can be found in the intricate design of the windows with divided lights in the upper sash and a single light in the lower sash. The Craftsman style house plans exterior features natural materials consisting of wood siding or stone, masonry chimneys, and rock foundations that slope outward as they approach the ground. There are differences between the Craftsman and the Bungalow home plan styles. Bungalows are 1 to 1½ story houses which most often use elements of the Craftsman style. However, the Craftsman home style may be found on libraries, apartment buildings, houses, or any size building. Here are some examples of favorite Craftsman house plans.
