Cape Cod House Plan Architecture Style

A Cape Cod house plan style is a variation of Colonial architecture. Originally, Cape Cods were small, one storied homes (similar to Ranch Home Plans) with shingled sides and no dormers. Newer versions of Cape Cod Style House Plans have one or one and a half stories with gabled, steep roofs (8" - 12" pitch), may have dormers and shutters, and typically have small roof overhangs. Other features common to Cape Cod style houses include a formal floor plan, a symmetrical appearance, a large center chimney, and hardwood floors. Although Cape Cods were initially inspired by the blustery weather conditions in Massachusetts' Cape Cod region, their home style appearance still portray the feel of coziness and warmth.
