Arts and Crafts House Plan Architecture StyleA reformist movement initiated in Europe by the writings John Ruskin, the Arts and Crafts Movement re-emphasized creations of the individual artisan during the time when industrialization and mass production was going full-tilt. The movement influenced architecture, cabinet making and even garden design. In the United States, the Arts and Crafts Movement reflects an interior design style popular from around 1910 to 1925, and is characterized by aspects such as design simplicity, and objects crafted by hand. Arts and Crafts home plans designs reflective of the movement include Bungalow Home Plans, Craftsman Bungalow Home Plans, Victorian House Plans, Prairie Style homes and Country House Plans. At one, or one and a half stories, bungalows were low, functional, spreading houses with horizontal lines, simple porches, and lines of windows designed to integrate the outdoors into the home. Craftsman Bungalows were promoted by Gustav Stickley in his magazine, The Craftsman, and were generally a bit larger, perhaps two stories tall. These Craftsman bungalows still had many original bungalow features, but instilled natural materials in the building process-- stone fireplaces, cedar shingles, deep wood grains, and slate roofs. The Prairie Style home was created by architect Frank Lloyd Wright who envisioned a home style reflective of the long horizontal lines of the American prairie. This style was a bigger, more expensive type of bungalow designed for an upper class homeowner who could afford the larger, more customized home. Below we have listed several homes that incorporate the beautiful features of the Arts and Crafts House Plans Style architecture.
